We’re celebrating this year’s upcoming Edinburgh Art Festival (11-27th August) with a trip around some of the city's most exciting exhibitions, galleries and museums through the eyes of photographer and creator Tanya Ayra.
The festival is the UK’s largest annual festival of visual art and partners with organisations, exhibitions and museums across Edinburgh, meaning there’s plenty to see.
1. Royal Botanic Gardens.
Find peace and tranquillity amongst plants from across the globe. Explore the glasshouses and gardens of Edinburgh’s Botanical Gardens with their rotating exhibitions offering insight into our natural world.
2. Jupiter Artland.
Located just outside the city, this award-winning contemporary sculpture garden and gallery is a world of its own. Housing both established and up-and-coming artists, is definitely worth a visit.
3. Exhibition: Lindsey Mendick: Sh*faced.
Our friends at Edinburgh Art Festival gave Tanya access to Lindsey Mendick’s ‘SH*TFACED*' exhibition at Jupiter Artland. Showing until 1st October, Mendick takes you through the stages of a night out in an explosive fashion through art ‘delivering the best in debauchery, dancing, cameos and karaoke.’
4. National Museum of Scotland.
Discover the breadth of Scottish history at the natural museum with collections, galleries and objects taking you through centuries of the countries past and present.
5. National Gallery.
Immerse yourself in both Scottish and international renowned artists. With free entry it’s the perfect place to spend the day.
