Delve into the locale around our Locke properties with those that know it best, our House Hosts. This time we head to Cambridge, and explore some of the city's most exciting, lesser-known places to visit with Nikoletta and Arthur.

With the leaves starting to fall and days getting shorter, autumn is well and truly starting to set in. Where’s better for a cosy autumn getaway than Cambridge? With its small, cobbled alleyways, impressive architecture and its snug historic pubs, it’s an ideal spot to say hello to the changing seasons.

We asked our Turing Locke House Hosts, Nikoletta and Arthur, to show us around the city they call home - stepping away from punting and the grand buildings of its infamous university, to uncover some hidden gems. From retro gaming to the best Mexican fare and views across the city, take note of these local hangouts and places to visit for your next trip to Cambridge.

 Turing Locke, Eddington

A spot for grabbing a morning coffee.

Douce, Eddington Avenue

Located just around the corner from Turing Locke is Douce Salon. A hybrid coffee shop, hairdressers and bar with a lovely terrace and floor to ceiling windows. Not only do they do a great flat white and haircut, they also sell locally made items.

Stir, Chesterton Road

If you're in city centre definitely check out Stir - a cafe and bakery on Chesterton Road. Their homemade sourdough is to die for, and it's also one of the best places in Cambridge to head for great coffee.

A spot for lunch after a morning of exploration.

Nanna Mexico, Petty Cury

Nanna Mexico near Market Square is a great budget place for a lunchtime pit stop in Cambridge. Try some great Mexican food and watch the interesting array of people.

Six Brassiere, Thompsons Lane

If you're looking for a somewhere to impress, there's also the roof top at Six Brassiere which has a spectacular view over the city whilst dining.

Bar-OH

Bar-OH

An ‘off the beaten track’ spot for your culture fix.

Bar-OH, Downing Place

Edgier Bar-OH is tucked away in the town centre for all your retro gaming cravings. With quirky cocktail fixes on offer too, it's a great new hidden Cambridge hideaway.

A spot to buy yourself something unique.

Cambridge Gin Lab, Green Street & Cambridge Distillery, Grantchester

It's become pretty well known over the years, but we still recommend heading over to Cambridge Gin Lab to pick up a unique, local bottle of truffle gin. You can also head a little out of town to the Cambridge Gin Distillery which is definitely worth a trip.

How would you describe Cambridge to someone who’s never been?

Nikoletta: "Cambridge is like an old soul. It's calm, serene and a beautiful place to wander around, live and explore."
Arthur: "Its charming streets and historic air that’s unique to the city."

Nikoletta, House Host

For Nikoletta, her favourite aspect of working at Turing Locke is being "unaplogetically" herself, and feeling comfortable to express who she is to guests and colleagues. Alongside working at Locke, she is an aspiring artist. She'll be releasing her first EP ‘Honeymoon Phase Over’ under the name NIKITHADON – so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

For Arthur, he's found Locke a welcoming and easy environment, making friends with the team and feeling he can be himself. House Hosts are always encouraged to pursue outside projects; for Arthur this is his graphic design projects.
