WunderLocke House Host Jenny takes us around some of Munich's lesser-explored corners, from picnic spots by the River Isar to places to pick up authentic German cuisine.
A place to tell all your friends about…
Eisbachwelle.
A must-go in Munich, Eisbachwelle is one of the best-known city centre locations for river surfing in the world. Go and watch surfers out on the wave, rain, snow or shine. It's a perfect spot to stop by on your way to the English Garden and to enjoy the river Isar.
A place for a springtime picnic…
English Garden, West Park.
In the English Gardens you can do anything from playing games, having a picnic or enjoying a drink with friends, and then going for a swim. Another great park is West Park, close to WunderLocke in the Sendling-Westpark district its full of artificial hills and valleys as well as two large lakes.
A place to feel cultured…
Juristische Bibliothek, Munich Residenz.
Some of the most prestigious buildings in the city. With dark wood shelves, ivy-clad decoration and whimsical winding staircases. It's a lovely place to visit to especially if you're a fan of fairytales. There’s also a beautiful view of Hofgarten connecting the two.
A place to eat well…
Hackerhaus.
Indulging in traditional German cuisine at a cozy local restaurant is an experience not to be missed during your visit to Munich. Hackerhaus is Jenny’s favourite place to grab some local cuisine and take in the buzz due to its great street garden.
A place to enjoy a night out…
Ganz Woanders, Killians Irish Pub.
Killians is an Irish pub just behind Marienplatz, with a great atmosphere, drinks and live music. Ganz Woanders is a lovely cafe with beers, pizza and live music. Quite unique it's a spot to catch up with friends and enjoy the warmer summer evenings.
What’s your favourite thing about living in Munich, and what are you most excited about with the arrival of spring?
I love the abundance of wonderful parks and green spaces in Munich. I am excited to see the amazing colours that come with blossoms and greenery as and everything is blooming and waking up...including the beer gardens!
